Make your school locker budget go further

It is well documented that school children who carry too many heavy books around with them each day are at risk of developing back problems - statistics show that half of all children have back problems at some time and that in 8% of cases it is serious enough to affect their attendance at school.
A common solution to the problem is to install Lockers so that children don’t have to carry all of their heavy school books around in bags that are often un-ergonomically designed.
Joeri Decae, Sales Director at Link Lockers, the UK’s largest locker manufacturer for schools, says: “School Lockers are purposely designed to address this health issue. They provide a practical and secure storage solution for books, paper, PE bags, lunch boxes, jackets and valuable items like mobile phones or gaming devices. The convenience they offer students also helps to reduce clutter within the school, leading to a clean, tidy and secure learning environment.”
Today, lockers are an essential fixture in schools, but in the current economic climate, which sees the education sector facing increased pressures on their finances, the need to develop and replace student lockers is causing concern for many head teachers. “We know from talking to schools how important lockers are, from a student health, storage and security point of view. The issue of funding is a problem and has been further thrown into the spotlight recently, with the Government’s spending cuts announcment,” added Joeri.
New school locker leasing programme:
As the UK’s locker experts, Link Lockers have swiftly responded to this issue by launching a new schools lockers leasing programme. Link Lockers will be working with Investec Education, who offer specialist leasing for schools, to promote and deliver the new leasing programme to schools faced with these financial concerns. “Procuring new lockers for 1000 children for example can cost in excess of £30,000. With our new leasing programme, no capital outlay is required and schools can spread the cost over 3 or 4 years,” confirms Joeri.
Furthermore if schools combined Link Lockers leasing programme with a small annual parental payment fee per pupil, the scheme can also be self-financing and even generate an extra income for the school. Joeri says: “In essence, this is a win win situation. Schools not only get the lockers they need without any capital outlay, they can also create an additional revenue stream – this is an innovative way for schools to answer the Government’s cost saving policy too!”
